Russell Brand, Fox's Sean Hannity trade barbs over Israel-Hamas conflict

  1. Sean Hannity HEATED Exchange with Yousef Munayyer Palestinian Guest - Fox News
  2. In a July 24 "Hannity" segment branded "Sympathy for the Terrorists," the right-wing Fox host began his interview with Yousef Munayyer, the Palestinian executive director of the U.S.-based Jerusalem Fund, by jabbing a finger at his guest and demanding to know how he would react if thousands of rockets were being fired into his neighborhood -- a reference to Hamas firing rockets into Israel.
  3. Munayyer attempted to answer several times but was interrupted by the increasingly infuriated Fox anchor, and the interview reached its nadir when a visibly agitated Hannity bellowed, "What part of this can't you get through your thick head? Is Hamas a terrorist organization?" before cutting the interview short with a terse "goodbye."
  4. Israel-Palestine: Is This A Debate? Russell Brand The Trews (E111)
  5. Five days later Brand, an ebullient comedian who has had his fair share of run-ins with British TV anchors in the past, took to "The Trews," his YouTube channel, to slam Hannity for the aggressive grilling of his Palestinian guest.

In a post entitled "Israel-Palestine: Is This a Debate?", Brand said the Fox host looked "like the Ken doll from Toy Story 3" and claimed Hannity was looking not for solutions for the seemingly intractable Israel-Hamas crisis, but for more conflict.

"One of the definitions of 'terrorist' is using intimidation to reach your goals," Brand declared. "Who in that situation was behaving like a terrorist, using intimidation, bullying, and being unreasonable? Sean Hannity, that's where the terrorism is coming from."
  6. Brand's video, which has been viewed more than 2.4 million times, was the most watched "Trews" video of all-time -- but it didn't take Hannity, one of Fox's most recognized faces, long to respond.
  7. Sean Hannity OBLITERATES Russell Brand Over Ignorant Hamas Remarks
  8. In a panel segment on July 31, Hannity referred to Brand as a "D-list actor better known for his failed marriage to Katy Perry," and called him "ignorant" for his take on the current Israel-Hamas crisis.

"Russell, if you're watching, and I'm sure you will, take a close look at your TV because I need to educate you because you're kind of dumb and ignorant," Hannity says, before showing Hamas' 1988 charter -- which pledges the destruction of Israel -- on air. Hamas does not recognize Israel's right to exist.

"This guy's got a skanky look, he looks like he cooks meth and sleeps in his car, I wouldn't be calling anybody names," jokes one of Hannity's guests, to laughter from the panel.

Hannity ends the segment by saying, "You know what's scary? Everything's backwards. I gotta tell you, if you don't have the moral clarity that Israel has the right to defend themselves here, I think this world is screwed up beyond any point of recovery."
